Sharing about Mike Ness earlier this week made us want to tell you more about his chosen charity- where all of the profits from the sale if his guitar string bracelets go.

Orangewood Children's Foundation began over 30 years ago with a vision to build a facility to shelter Orange County children who were the victims of abuse, neglect and abandonment... today, it has grown into so much more, focusing on the needs of children and teens currently or previously in the foster care system. They strive to develop a wide range of activities, scholarships, support and programs to give them every chance of success.

Sadly, statistics are hard to swallow. Over 35,000 cases of child abuse are reported each year in Orange County and 10% of the children are removed from their caregivers due to unsafe conditions. The majority of these children are placed temporarily at Orangewood Children & Family Center, and have experienced the most serious forms of physical and sexual abuse.

These children, now wards of the state, spend the rest of their childhood in foster care or group care homes, where, at the age of 18, they suddenly find themselves on their own - emancipated - from the system. Many of these children lack the structure and support a family offers, and are unprepared for the challenges of adulthood. Most do not have the experience they need or resources to pay for basic necessities and are at high risk of becoming homeless, incarcerated or victimized.

Orangewood Children's Foundation is working on long-term solutions to these issues with strategies like successful transition programs, more support to children in foster care, sustaining the family center, and strengthening at-risk families. Programs offering emergency assistance, job placement, transitional housing, peer counseling, and scholarships for college or vocational training give these children the chance to succeed, despite their painful pasts.

You are directly supporting these children and families through the purchase of THESE guitar string bracelets. So... #whosestringsareyouwearing?
